Wisdom Tooth Extraction Made Easy: A Step-by-Step Guide

Wisdom Tooth Removal Guide | Gregory Zabek DDS | San Francisco Dentist

What to Expect When Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Are you nervous about getting your wisdom teeth removed? You’re not alone! At Gregory Zabek Advanced General & Cosmetic Dentistry in San Francisco, we want you to feel calm and prepared. Knowing what to expect can make the whole process a lot easier. Here’s a simple guide to help you understand what happens before, during, and after a wisdom tooth removal.

Before Your Wisdom Tooth Removal

First, you’ll visit Dr. Zabek for a comprehensive oral exam. We will take X-rays to check where your wisdom teeth are and see if they are impacted (stuck under the gum) or causing problems like crowding.

This visit is the perfect time to ask any questions and learn about your options.

Tip: Wear comfortable clothes and bring someone who can drive you home, especially if you’re getting sedation.

During the Procedure

On the day of your wisdom tooth extraction, Dr. Zabek will numb the area with local anesthesia so you won’t feel pain. If the tooth is impacted, a small cut may be made to reach and remove it safely.

Thanks to today’s modern techniques, most patients say the procedure is faster and easier than they expected.

After Your Wisdom Tooth Removal

It’s normal to have some swelling and soreness for a few days after your wisdom tooth is removed. Dr. Zabek will give you easy-to-follow care instructions to help you heal quickly.

Here are a few tips to help you recover:

  • Eat soft foods like yogurt, smoothies, and soup.
  • Avoid using a straw to prevent dry socket (a painful condition where the blood clot comes loose).
  • Rest for a few days and take it easy.

Most people feel much better within a few days and can return to normal activities soon after.
