The foods and beverages you regularly indulge in have a direct impact on the health of your teeth. Today we’re going to look at what you should be having if you want to take care of your teeth as well as your body. At Gregory Zabek Advanced General and Cosmetic Dentistry, we encourage the following:

Daily diet: Fruits and vegetables should be tops on your list. Because they have a high concentration of water and fiber, they help to balance the sugars and help clean your teeth. Raw veggies also encourage saliva production, which serves to remove those harmful acids and oral debris from your teeth and help neutralize the acid. Next, proteins like meat and fish, eggs and beans add phosphorous and protein which benefit your teeth. And finally, low-fat dairy, including milk, yogurt, and cheese bring calcium and protein to the table, which benefits teeth and gums.

Drinks: What are you drinking every day? Sugary beverages like soda or sports drinks are harmful to your teeth and your body. You can never go wrong with water, especially if it is fluoridated. This helps keep saliva production higher and helps wash away food particles and cavities away!

Snacks: If you are snacking throughout the day on sugary or starchy snacks, you are inviting trouble, as cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth feed on these choices. Instead, stick to cheese, yogurt, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Chewing sugarless gum can also lower your risk of cavities as well as stimulate healthy saliva flow.
